Monitise is developing its services using its Globe technology platform, which is already used by millions of consumers globally to securely interact with their money. The company is listed in London and has aggressive plans for further growth.
With live services in the UK, India, Africa and the US, Monitise is working with international partners to deliver Mobile Money services worldwide. Key partners include Visa Inc. and Visa Europe, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, First Direct, Royal Bank of Scotland, First Eastern, The Carphone Warehouse, Best Buy Europe, Research In Motion and many more. Major shareholders include Visa Inc., Standard Chartered Bank, 3i Group and First Eastern.
The Group Strategy function is responsible for Monitise’s ‘point of view’, understanding markets, consumers, technology to ensure that Monitise’s approach creates value for our partners: pragmatic services for today and a clear line of sight to the future. It is therefore a critical function in ensuring the long term success of the business.
Thought Leadership is central to the Monitise value proposition, and it is the responsibility of the Strategy Team to provide it.
The Group Strategy function also runs the Monitise Advisory Practice, which provides consultancy services to existing clients and also on a standalone basis to 3rdparties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Although the scope and focus of the day to day activities within the role will change dependent on business requirements, the following should be considered core activities:
Strategy
Market Analysis
- Market: assessing territory opportunities including financial modelling
- Competitor: monitoring competitive landscape, identifying learnings and key points of differentiation
- Sector: analysing new business sectors to identify potential Monitise value propositions
- Partner: answering the ‘what’s our value proposition to X’ question
Development of Value Propositions
- Develop compelling articulation of Monitise value proposition to all stakeholder groups
Suspecting
- All new potential partners/territories are channelled to the strategy team for assessment and where appropriate passed on to appropriate area for Prospecting activity
- Maintaining relationships with key introducers
Pre-Sales & Sales Support
- The strategy team plays an important role in supporting the sales teams, with prospective and existing key partners, in the articulation of our value propositions, sharing ‘Lookahead’ insights and offering a consultative approach to developing a partnership/trusted advisor relationship
External relations

Maintaining effective relationships with key Industry Analysts so that
- We benefit from new insights
- They have a positive perception of Monitise, which is reassuring to prospective and existing partners and investors

Maintaining an appropriate profile at conferences
- Run budgets
- Identify, secure and deliver key speaking opportunities
- Media profile: respond to media requests for ‘mobile money experts’.
Advisory
Consultancy
- Provide strategy consultancy services to existing Partners and new clients
Practice Development
- Develop Advisory product range including collateral & pricing
- Advisory sales
- Develop proposals
- Monitoring pipeline and reporting
Roles within the strategy team have a group-wide perspective and are therefore likely to involve a degree of international travel.
Key to success in the role will be strong analytical and communication skills in order to establish ‘trusted advisor’ relationships with senior executives both internally and externally.
The team needs to be absolutely world class in its credibility. Collaborative and empathetic working with other parts of Monitise and with partners is a key feature. Personal qualities must be consistent with our ‘banking-grade’ positioning.
At Consultant level, the work is likely to involve:
- Competitor, market and partner research and analysis
- Preparation of presentations, proposals and business models

At Senior Consultant level, the work is additionally likely to involve:
- Managing Advisory engagements
- Suspect analysis, meeting and evaluation

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Degree level qualification in a business related subject or equivalent experience
Skills and Competencies
- Familiarity with the following areas is relevant: banking, payments, mobile, technology, business modelling, international markets, emerging markets
- Strong communication skills: verbal and written
- Strong analytical skills both at strategic stakeholder analysis and detailed financial modelling levels
