Group Management Accountant

Scope of Position

Monitise, the mobile money experts, have created one of the most extensive and successful mobile banking and payments services in the world. It is a publicly listed business with in excess of 1m registered end users, a market capitalization of circa £150m and aggressive plans for further growth. Monitise has an extremely strong and supportive shareholder base that includes Visa, UBS, SCB and First Eastern.

 

Now in its sixth year of operation, Monitise has live mobile banking operations in both the UK and the US; with further business developments being progressed across other regions (India, Africa and Asia Pacific).

 

Monitise has a Global Alliance Agreement in place with Visa, where Monitise has been contracted to act as their principle partner to ‘mobilize’ Visa’s services. Work is also progressing to expand into the retail environment through the foundation of the Mobile Money Network with Carphone Warehouse Plc and Travelex.

 

To support this growth we are seeking to recruit a technically adept and qualified Group Accountant. Reporting to the Financial Controller (Group) this role will be responsible for the preparation of group consolidation, management accounts, head office accounting, assisting with preparation of forecasts and budgets as well assuming responsibility for the accounting systems. Furthermore the candidate will be expected to coach more junior members of the team. Based at the head office the successful candidate will have great exposure and visibility to key commercial and operational personnel within the company. Furthermore you will be responsible for fostering key international relationships (in the USA, India and Far East). You must be an energetic self starter and keen to progress within the business. Key Duties and Responsibilities

 

Although the scope and focus of the day to day activities within the role will change dependent on business requirements, the following should be considered the core accountable activities:

 

  • Production of the group and Head Office monthly management accounts
  • Provision of monthly business support to key internal stakeholders
  • Supporting the group’s half year end and annual reporting process with the external auditors and key stakeholders within the business
  • Supporting the Financial Controller (Group) with defining and maintaining group accounting polices and controls
  • Building and managing relationships with subsidiary and joint venture entities both domestically and overseas
  • Responsible for the control of the Group’s accounting package
  • Active involvement in the budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Attending to statutory filings (both in the UK and internationally) where appropriate
  • Assisting the Financial Controller (Group) with ad hoc projects as required

 


 

Person Specification

 

Education and Qualifications

 

Candidates must be educated to at least degree level or have equivalent experience in a relevant field and be ACCA / CIMA qualified.

 

 

Experience

  • Group consolidations experience is essential (proportional consolidation experience would be  desirable)
  • Previous experience within a group role with particular focus on management accounting
  • Dealing with a multi currency environment (essential)
  • Experience of working in an international business environment (desirable)
  • Provision of accounting and finance support to non-financial managers
  • Previous exposure to IFRS (desirable)

 

Skills and Competencies

 

  • First rate bookkeeping skills (essential)
  • Excellent Excel skills (to at least VLOOKUP level)
  • Excellent and demonstrable relationship building ability
  • Confident with accounting systems (SAP B1 desirable)
  • Highly developed communication skills at all levels (both written and Oral)
  • Proactive with creativity to implement and manage change (essential)
  • Demonstrable ability to understand and manage complex transactions
  • The successful candidate will be a robust self-starter with proven planning and organisation skills
